Long Service Awards: George Kunene

PG Bison honours the journey of long-serving employees for being part of the change by committing to building the company’s future. We take this opportunity to profile employees with the remarkable milestone of over 40 years of service by telling their stories and highlighting their progress within the company.

George Kunene, based in Mkhondo (Piet Retief), started working for PG Bison at the age of 20 in 1982. He describes himself as a sociable individual who enjoys soccer.

What is your position at PG Bison, and what do you enjoy most about it?

I’m a Sander Operator, and I set and operate the sanding machine. The sanding line helps prepare the surface of the board for the next process.

What makes you proud to work for PG Bison?

I started working for PG Bison as a general worker, and as the years went by, I got a better position. I’m proud because I was recognised amongst other employees to fill the current position and that I’ve worked hard and long enough to be recognised as a long-serving employee, which is a great milestone for me.

How has your experience with the company been?

My experience has been a learning journey because I was always willing to learn and receive more training from the company.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I don’t think there’s anything people don’t about me because I’m very outspoken.

What are your future goals?

After I retire, I want to spend time with my wife, children, and grandchildren and take care of my cows.

What are your greatest achievements during your time at PG Bison?

I am able to provide for my family. I have built a home and given my kids a good education, and now I can proudly say that I am a hardworking father for my children.
