Message from Gerhard: Women’s Month

Dear Colleagues,
In the words of Dr Martin Luther King, “We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” The 9 th of August commemorates the anniversary of the great women’s march of 1956. While 1956 may feel like a long time ago, the historical event left its mark, with South Africa celebrating women both on this day and throughout the month. As a proudly South African company, we too will be celebrating this women’s month, by launching internal initiatives, recognising the strength and resilience of the women within PG Bison.
These initiatives are the first of its kind in PG Bison but is by no means the last!
There are still many gender-related issues to be overcome around the world, in our country and in our own communities, but as an organisation, we can take a moment to acknowledge that we have already managed to achieve so much. We need to continue this journey that we have chosen, and we need to continue to embrace change and diversity. This will help us all build a stronger and more sustainable business in the long term.
“Being the change” is an internal message you will begin to see more of in the coming weeks and months. KAP has chosen this as its key brand promise. And as PG Bison is a part of KAP, we all have an important role to play in being active change agents, incorporating this philosophy into our everyday activities. As a start, women in various departments have chosen to share their personal stories. These stories will be profiled and shared internally during August. In so doing, we want to inspire others to be proud of who they are, to step forward, to be the change.
You will soon be receiving an email from the Marketing department, directing you to a page on the PG Bison website, designed especially for and accessible only by PG Bison employees. There you will be able to read these stories. Additionally, we will host a “pause” session on Friday, the 5 th of August, that I invite all women to attend.
The leadership team of PG Bison remains committed to this vision and ensuring we continue to build on what has already been achieved.
Join me as we celebrate the power of women during the month of August.
Kind regards
Gerhard
