PG Bison customers on exhibiting at reimagined Decorex

In 2022, Decorex Africa has been entirely reimagined, promoting the local design industry with its new look and feel.

Decorex Joburg, which took place in July at the Sandton Convention Centre, featured a variety of kitchen manufacturers showcasing the latest in creative and innovative kitchen trends.

While PG Bison was one of the official sponsors of the Kitchen Specialists Association (KSA) Kitchen Trend Project, we also assisted other kitchen manufactures displaying at the show with sponsorship of products from our decorative ranges, including MelaWood SupaMatt, which complements the latest trends towards matt kitchens. Some of these companies were exhibiting at the show for the first time.

PG Bison’s National Enterprise Development Manager, Thabile Dikobe, says, “What was beautiful to see was the commitment from all participants related to the process of building stands within tight deadlines, managing the stand and proactively engaging with customers. There was a lot of learning from this process, which is good as it expands the customer’s outlook to shows like Decorex and the benefits associated with partaking. Customers pushed their creativity and designed displays that could compete anywhere in the world.”

We spoke to some our customers who exhibited to find out about their experiences.

Denic Cabinets

Proudly South African company and B-BBEE Level 1 Contributor within the carpentry industry, Denic Cabinets was a first-time exhibitor. The company’s exceptional show kitchen featured popular PG Bison MelaWood colours and designs including Caldera, Super Black and Astana.

Denic Cabinet CEO, Dipuo Phakathi, says that, as a first-time exhibitor, although she was excited, she was also a little anxious. “The exhibition was useful as it provided us with many leads which could potentially turn to sales. It also helped position our brand in the market while introducing and exposing us to other people in the construction value chain, such as interior designers, architects and developers.”

Dipuo adds that her favourite experience as an exhibitor was meeting clients from outside of Gauteng Province, as well as cross-border clients. It also taught her more about customers’ demands and pain points when it comes to industry suppliers and contractors.

Moremi Kitchens

Moremi Kitchens was established in 2007 and is a KSA registered member, renowned for remodelling living spaces and providing solutions ranging from design to custom cabinetry installations.

Moremi Kitchens Marketing Director, Audrey Selamolela, says that the display stand build-up and break-down time crunches were the trickiest part of Decorex. Building an immaculate kitchen in a matter of hours put the team under immense pressure.

“The show gave us an opportunity to showcase our craft and ingenuity,” she says. “It also gave visitors a chance to see the latest trends. We were able to introduce ourselves to people that had never come across Moremi Kitchens before. We were able to form new relationships with people who have been intrigued by our brand.”

Audrey also highlighted how their operations team coordinated the logistics perfectly to ensure they had a state-of-the-art kitchen exhibit of which they could be proud.

“The PG Bison and Decorex teams gave us plenty of guidance when we needed it. It was also great to see how people reacted to the invisible stove, touch-activated cabinetry, and all the other amazing aspects of our kitchen of the future,” she says.

Pascal Interior Design and Carpentry Services

Pascal Interior Design and Carpentry Services is a cabinetry installer, a Proudly South African company, a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor and a registered KSA member.

Pascal Hlongwane, Managing Director of Pascal Interior Design and Carpentry Services, says that the planning of the exhibition went well. Their challenge was the stand size, which was too small for their intended design, which they then had to adjust to better suit the space.

“Meeting new clients with diverse perspectives and being able to show them our latest market trends from various industrial sectors is what made the exhibition exciting and interesting,” says Pascal. “We also learned from seeing other industry players and that will help us improve on upcoming exhibitions.”
