PG Bison Fam-Fest – More Than a Tournament

Sport in South Africa continues to unite our people, communities, and families, and PG Bison’s ‘family’ is no exception.

In celebration of ‘family’ spirit, the communities of Ugie and Maclear came together for PG Bison’s annual Fam-Fest on 28 and 29 March 2026, featuring local netball and soccer teams in a friendly sporting spectacle for all ages.

As one of the region’s largest employers, PG Bison recognises that meaningful engagement extends beyond business. It is about investing in people and relationships and creating opportunities for personal connection. The Fam-Fest event combines sport and entertainment, and forms part of PG Bison’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, aimed at fostering unity and a sense of belonging within the communities.

Building community through sport

Sibusiso Dlamini, PG Bison’s Executive of Human Capital and Stakeholder Relations reflected on this years’ tournament; “The two-day event was a huge success and a testament to the strength of our relationships within these communities. Fam-Fest continues to bring together people from diverse backgrounds, and the level of participation reflects a strong commitment to sportsmanship and to building lasting community values.”

From an ‘on-field’ perspective, umpire and coach, Pontsho Khoase, who began her netball journey at the age of 11 culminating in competing nationally, added; “Sportsmanship means respect, fair play, kindness and being a good team player, both to your team and your opponents. The PG Bison Fam-Fest plays a meaningful role in the lives of the youth in Ugie, Mount Fletcher and surrounding communities. It brings people together, promotes unity and community spirit, and encourages young people to give their best while celebrating one another and making their communities proud.”

Celebrating big wins

The talented young netball and soccer players took to the courts and fields in the spirit of friendly competition, with the added incentive of cash prizes to raise the stakes a little. In the interest of inclusivity, PG Bison also provided sports kits to all participating teams.

The hotly contested Under 25’s netball competition saw, Elliot Netball Team claim the 2026 title, with Maclear Young Stars worthy runners-up. In the Over 25’s, Mount Fletcher Eagles Netball Club emerged triumphant, with Elliot Netball Team grabbing the runners-up spot.

Soccer also brought excitement plus an element of nostalgia, with our veteran players showing they still have what it takes, by delivering some fun and memorable moments before joining in the celebrations of this year’s finalists.

Zulisa Boys Football Club from Maclear won the day, while Mountain Shadows Football Club from Elliot finished as worthy runners-up.

But let’s remember that whilst there are matches, and title winners, the essence of the Fam-Fest is exactly as the name suggests; a festival celebrating PG Bison’s broader family and community through sport, and in doing so, community spirit is the overall winner.
