PG Bison mkhondo fam-fest – a community united
PG Bison’s Mkhondo Fam-Fest again brought the local community together for a weekend of sport and sharing on 18 and 19 April.
As one of the region’s leading employers, PG Bison believes that meaningful impact goes beyond the workplace. By investing in people, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for connection, PG Bison supports the communities it serves with far more than creating employment.
Opening the tournament, PG Bison’s Operations Manager, Thomas Mabuza, welcomed all with a sentiment that summed up the event, “Today is more than just a day of sport, it’s a celebration of who we are as PG Bison. A company built not only on hard work and performance, but on people, relationships, and community.”
The annual Fam-Fest event is part of PG Bison’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI), designed to promote togetherness, community spirit, and a sense of belonging. This year’s Mkhondo Fam-Fest showcased 8 local soccer and 8 netball teams, who competed at the historic Kempville Stadium, where PG Bison is also leading a comprehensive stadium upliftment and maintenance project, on the soccer pitch and netball court.
Community and sport
Sibusiso Dlamini, PG Bison’s Executive of Human Capital and Stakeholder Relations reflected on this years’ tournament, “PG Bison’s commitment to developing community sport in Mkhondo extends well beyond maintaining facilities. This year, we went the extra mile to create a memorable experience for all”. Apart from the excitement and competition, each competing team, plus the legend squads, received full playing kits, a match ball, transport to and from the venue, and catered meals throughout the tournament. Children were also entertained with a jumping castle and face painting.
Joining in the spirit of community fun PG Bison’s own football and netball teams, comprising staff and management, also played friendly games against the coaches of participating community teams.
Adding an element of competition, the teams that made it to the finals of the tournament were also presented with a brand-new alternate kit for the championship match. And the winning teams were each awarded a cash prize of R10 000.
Football
The football tournament was made up of participating Leagues from Amsterdam, Driefontein, Ngema-Dirkiesdorp, Simakade, Sinethemba Driefontein, Thandukukhanya, UHlelo, and the newly formed Ward 2 Promotion League.
The competition was enthralling, and the jubilant winners were:

Netball
The netball games also showcased the best young talent from the local teams from the community. And this year’s tournament had netball scouts on the lookout for rising stars from the community. After very competitive games the top 3 spots went to:
- Rockstar
- Trouble Makers
- Thembalethu
