How it’s made

Formica® LifeSeal® combines the strength of BisonBord® as its core, with the durability of Formica® high-pressure laminate (HPL) for its surface.

Formica® HPL is made by fusing a specific number of resin-impregnated paper sheets, depending on the final thickness required, using heat and pressure. This process produces a thin, water-resistant sheet of material. After manufacturing, HPL still needs to be bonded to a supporting substrate.

The LifeSeal® strip on the worktop stops water from seeping into the BisonBord® core, reducing the risk of swelling and delamination. This helps keep your surface solution functional and looking good for a long time.

PG Bison’s locally produced Formica® LifeSeal® Worktops offer a modern design aesthetic with a range of styles to choose from – whether you’re looking for a textured or gloss finish. Plus, they’re a much more affordable option than other countertop materials.

Using Formica Lifeseal Worktops

With its wear-, scuff-, impact-, stain- and moisture-resistant surface properties, Formica® LifeSeal® is ideal for medium- to heavy-duty horizontal applications, such as kitchen and workspace areas.

During installation, all exposed edges of the worktop must be sealed with a suitable sealant to protect the core from moisture, including the back edges where the worktop meets the wall, butt joints at the corners or breakfast nooks and cut-outs for sinks and stovetops. Various products can be used, such as marine varnish, enamel paint or other suitable sealants.

The sealant should be applied in a dabbing motion to make sure it penetrates well. It’s best to apply two coats and let each one dry properly. By sealing the edges properly, there is very little risk of water seeping into the core, which will keep the worktops looking great for many years. Other than sealing the edges, Formica® LifeSeal® needs no additional surface maintenance, apart from regular cleaning.
