MelaWood® is PG Bison’s leading brand of melamine-faced board (MFB).

MelaWood® is manufactured locally by PG Bison, which means you can work in confidence knowing the product is readily available and technical support is a phone call away.

How it’s made

Our top-quality BisonBord® is covered on both sides with decorative paper that has been infused with melamine resin using heat and pressure. When the resin-coated paper is pressed, the resin flows and hardens to create a smooth, non-porous surface. This means there are no microscopic pores for germs to hide; it also makes the surface so much easier to clean with a damp cloths.

The cured melamine surface provides a durable finish that is scratch and moisture-resistant. To finish the job, the edges of the cut MelaWood® panels are sealed using a suitable glue and edge-banding material – this gives each panel the best protection possible against exposure to moisture.

As a further benefit, a special anti-bacterial additive is blended into our melamine resin, which helps destroy any bacteria that may come into contact with the surface within hours. MelaWood® is the perfect solution for hygiene-sensitive, high-traffic areas where cleanliness alone is insufficient, such as healthcare facilities, office spaces, schools, restaurants, retail and in your home.

Using MelaWood

MelaWood® is perfect for your home and working areas – whether in your kitchen, bedroom, or lounge. It’s also a great solution for offices, hospitality, healthcare and retail spaces. It is ideal for medium-duty vertical and light horizontal applications, such as freestanding and built-in cupboards, door and drawer frontals, carcasses and shelving, wall cladding and interior building elements.

MelaWood® comes in a wide range of designs that work well with all our finishes to suit every application. To make your choice a little easier, we can recommend the surface finish we think best showcases each design. Contact your stockist if you have a particular request outside of these recommendations. MelaWood® is available in five versatile surface finishes:

Fusion – a natural, veneer look
Linear – a strong textured, straight wood grain
Natural Touch – a velvety matt
Peen – a textured, stipple effect
Strata – a modern matt with less sheen, reserved for our BisonLam Picco White product
