Sports, Spirit, and Fun Shared Moments at PG Bison’s Ugie Fam-Fest 2025

PG Bison Fam-Fest

The community of Ugie and Maclear gathered for the much-anticipated annual PG Bison Fam-Fest on April 5 and 6, filling the Ugie High School grounds with energy, excitement, and team spirit. Young netball and soccer players from surrounding communities arrived eager to compete, not just for cash prizes but for the love of the game and the thrill of friendly competition.

This two-day event is an integral part of PG Bison’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, which aim to foster unity, trust, and a sense of belonging within the communities where we operate. As one of the largest employers in the region, PG Bison understands that meaningful community engagement goes beyond business, it’s about investing in people, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for joy and connection.

Sport has long been a unifying force in South Africa, transcending backgrounds and bringing people together. Sport continues to be a source of hope and empowerment. Fam Fest embodies this spirit by celebrating not just competition but the values that build stronger communities, such as sportsmanship and discipline.

This year’s netball champions, Maclear Young Stars (U25) and Mt Fletcher Eagles (O25), walked away with a cash prize of R7 500 each, which will go towards participation in other tournaments. On the soccer field, Ugie’s Tornado Football Club claimed victory, winning R13 000, which will assist them in getting new soccer boots for those in need and sports gear for their practices. These prizes not only reward the winners but also help them continue to develop their talent and passion for their respective sports.

Nomvuyo Mehlo, Cluster Liaison Manager for PG Bison shared their thoughts on the event, saying, “I believe that the success of the PG Bison Brand can only grow when it touches the souls of the communities it operates in. What better way than when we tap into social change of the youth in our area through sports”. Their words captured the essence of what Fam-Fest is all about, bringing people together and building a strong sense of community through shared experiences.

Beyond the matches and trophies, the Fam-Fest is also about celebrating together. PG Bison helps create a lively, welcoming atmosphere by providing nutritious meals and sports kits for the teams, ensuring that every participant feels valued and supported. However, it’s the enthusiastic participation of our staff that truly brings this event to life. Their dedication, encouragement, and willingness to step in as volunteers, coordinators, and cheerleaders make a difference. Veteran Player and PG Bison Contractor Harris Nxangashe stated that “Without PG Bison, there would have been many sad stories to tell in the lives of our children. These tournaments give them something to look forward to and rejoice about.”

A heartfelt thank you to every player, volunteer, supporter, and community member who contributed to the success of Fam-Fest 2025. Your passion and involvement made this a memorable event, a wonderful tradition to uphold, and a testament to the strength of the Ugie community.
