The Unifying Power of Sport: Mkhondo Fam-Fest 2025
PG Bison Fam-Fest
On 10 and 11 May 2025, the forested municipal district of Mkhondo was transformed into a vibrant hub of fun and sporting spirit. Once again, PG Bison employees and community members gathered at the Kempville Sports Ground for the annual PG Bison Fam-Fest. With a strong sense of camaraderie, and a shared love for sport, the atmosphere was electric as netball and soccer teams prepared to compete for the trophy.
This two-day event is a key part of PG Bison’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, which focuses on building unity, trust, and a sense of belonging in the communities where we operate. As one of the employers in the area, PG Bison recognises that meaningful engagement goes beyond business. It’s about investing in people, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for joy and connection.
The netball tournament concluded on Saturday, 10 May 2025 with Umlilo Combined School emerging victorious for the second time. They claimed first place, taking home a cash prize of R10 000 and gold medals. Amadlelo Aluhlaza secured second place, earning R8 000 and silver medals, while Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School came in third, receiving R5 000.
On the soccer field, winning Citizen FC emerged victorious, claiming the championship title along with a R10 000-00 cash prize and gold medals. Runners-up, Rangers FC, walked away with R5 000-00 and silver medals. These prizes not only reward excellence but also support the continued growth of talent and passion in our local sports scene.
Beyond the matches and trophies, the PG Bison Fam-Fest is a celebration of togetherness, the tournament was graced by the presence of the traditional council leaders, Chief Yende of Ogenyaneni and Chief Mthethwa of Kwamadabukela.
PG Bison helps create a warm, welcoming environment by providing nutritious meals and sports kits to all participating teams, ensuring everyone feels seen and supported. But it’s the enthusiastic involvement of our staff that truly brings the event to life. Their energy, commitment, and willingness to step in as volunteers, coordinators, and cheerleaders make a lasting impact.
Christo van Aardt, Operations Manager PG Bison Mkhondo, shared their reflections on the event, saying, “Sport has long been a unifying force in South Africa. It transcends backgrounds and brings people together, offering hope and empowerment. Fam-Fest reflects this spirit by celebrating not only competition, but also the values that build stronger communities, sportsmanship, discipline, and mutual respect. Well done to the young ladies and gentlemen, that gave it their all and making us proud”.
